In this era o mobility One-third of Canadians still rejects the mobile using a survey conducted says that Canadians between 16 and 60 do not use cellphones on a regular basis, importantly they do not have any desire to do so.

To compare, 90% of Americans and an incredible 97% of Britons between the ages of 16-60 are wireless users. The average penetration across 30 countries is 80%, the study said.

“Canadians do not have the same attachment to and reliance on mobile phones as the rest of the world does,” said Michael Ennamorato, senior
vice-president of TNS.

The survey polled 550 Canadians from across the country.

The third that don’t already own a cellular device aren’t likely to buy in over the next 12 months either, the study said — deeming this group the “rejecter segment.”

A focus on long-term plans from major carriers as well cheaper landline services contributed to the findings, the survey said.

“There are clearly segments of the Canadian wireless population that are leading-edge and want the latest and greatest,” Mr. Ennamorato said. “But on balance, there is a certain inertia in this market … to assign a more limited role to wireless communications.”
