Apple is holding talks with several networks to begin 99-cent TV show rentals on the iTunes platform. According to the source talks with FOX-owner News corporation is in advance level over the service. However, CBS and Disney are also involved. Apple may announce the agreement at the annual Fall iPod event which is expected to held next month.
If this agreement is made then the customer will be able to access larger catalog of content of Apple’s iTunes ecosystem on rental basis through the newly launched iPad and iPhone 4, and upcoming iPod touch 4 .
It is expected that the files would be available for purchase within 24 hours of air date. Amid the rumors of a $99 Apple iTV relaunch, this new pricing structure could be very tempting for many consumers.
Do you think a rental system like this will succeed? When the options like Netflix working hard to expand selection for a flat rate.

I think this would work… Not with everyone of course but..
1.) Those who already rent & buy media via iTunes will be all over it. Especially those who have an Apple TV or use their apple devices (i anything’s) to watch video etc.
2.) People who don’t have cable or satellite and may use Hulu or other streaming services
3.) People who are now downloading episodes next day via “shady” methods, this could save a lot of headache for a low price.
This won’t be for people who digest 1-2 hours of TV every night (although those people should maybe look to other hobbies). It would just be too expensive.
It is one step towards a la carte TV which I think is great!
