Firefox is now 5 years old

Yesterday it was 5 years ago, Firefox 1.0 debuted. Launched by the idealistic non-proft organization opensource as a beacon, Mozilla.org.

Today, the browser 330 million users, representing mozilla firefox market share of 24 percent and a second place in the world after Internet Explorer’s 65 percent. Firefox has left its mark both on browser development, and in general the way we maneuver in cyberspace.  Many of the smart firefox Features and Services Which today are standard, not least because of Firefox’s innovative drive.

But Firefox’s single most significant contribution has undoubtedly been, as all markets need competition. Without Firefox, we would not have Internet Explorer (IE) in as good a constitution, as is the case today.

But the next five years is probably more challenging for Firefox. The contest to equalize the differences in market and also spurred a number of new players who may well have particularly high market shares, but potential.

This applies not least Google Chrome But also Apple Safari and Norwegian Opera.

Firefox is no longer the only or perhaps not the ideal alternative to IE. According a new report by security firm Cenzic is Firefox’s security, one of the browser’s main selling points are now inferior to the main competitor, IE.

While the market shifted unmistakably to the mobile platform on which Firefox has its debut to good. And when it comes, Firefox will not be able to get the same impressive growth rates as the computer market.

There to is competition already too intense, even though the market is still in its infancy. Moreover, Firefox run into a new game in the mobile market. Currently, many providers also supply skilled in operating systems, for example. Apple, Nokia, Google, Blackberry and Microsoft. Perhaps tomorrow’s mobile browser an integral part of the operating system or vice versa. As Google plans to a future version of Chrome.

Firefox will still be there for 5 years, but probably not in the same weight class. But I am equally sure that the mobile market within the next five years will experience a completely new player coming out of nothing and shake up things. As Firefox in 2004.
