Google will translate telephone

by usmanzia on February 9, 2010

Google now has a comprehensive system of translating text even large scale  website to another language . Google hopes to do the same for speech. According to Franz Och, head of Google’s translation service, then they started to work on a system in real time to convert one spoken language into another, to be used in particular mobile phones.

The idea is to convert spoken language into text, a service like Google already offer, and then translate the text to the desired language with Google Translate. The software will then convert the translated text to speech again.

The biggest challenge p.t. is to make a proper speech-to-text conversion, as there is much variation in the pitch of voices and how the individual says a word.

Och expect that these problems will be solved within a few years, by among other things that make software that adapts the more it is used.
