Motorola’s 2009 slaes

In the past Motorola was the  second largest mobile manufacturer in the world but new innovative mobile phone like RIM and iphone  has just issued quarterly financial statements for the fourth quarter of 2009. The number of phones sold in 2009 rounded 55 million, of which only 12 million from the fourth quarter, which is a record low for the mobile manufacturer. When Motorola was at its peak back in 2006, the number of phones sold on a yearly almost four times larger.


Motorola Reduced losses
Despite a continued decline in number of sold handsets are mobile division’s losses have been reduced quite significantly. Motorola’s worst quarter in 2009 was the first quarter, when profits were at -28 percent. Profits have subsequently been improved each quarter; only -14 percent, -11 percent and then finally -7 percent in the fourth quarter.

Sales figures for 2009 ended at just over 7.1 billion U.S. dollars, which is significantly lower than previous years. In comparison, Motorola had sales of 28.4 billion U.S. dollars back in 2006, which sold 217 million units.

Twenty smartphones in 2010
Motorola indicate that 2 of the 12 million units sold in the fourth quarter were smartphones. Motorola launched two new Android phones in the fourth quarter, Mobile Devices and their executives promise that you will make at least twenty smartphones in 2010.
