Windows 7 Phone is not backwards compatible

Microsoft’s Charlie Kindel, in charge of contacts with developers outside of Microsoft, published late last week, as several had guessed that Windows 7 Phone will not be backward compatible with previous Windows Mobile applications.

To deliver what developers expect in the developer platform we’ve had to change how phone apps were written. One result of this is previous Windows Mobile applications will not run on Windows 7 Phone Series.Charlie Kindel, Microsoft

The decision, after Charlie Kindels statements because trying to make Windows 7 Phone as user friendly and powerful as possible, providing developers of applications for Windows phones in a dilemma, since they can either choose to develop for Windows Mobile or Windows 7 Phone not published until later this year.
